Fossacesia – New life for the Source of Venus

New life for the ancient Source of Venus in Fossacesia. E’ It approved a project for the recovery of the Roman era Source, located under the massive wall of the Abbey of San Giovanni in Venere. This project is part of a broader project for the accommodation of the Belvedere of San Giovanni in Venere.

"It was a long time that we were working to find the necessary funds for the restoration of the Source of Venus - said the Mayor of Fossacesia, Enrico Di Giuseppantonio -. We did not want to miss this important and significant testimony that is part of the history and culture of our city and we succeeded. The project provides for the structural consolidation of the artifact and the realization of access paths both from Belvedere San Giovanni in Venus, that from the parking lot below. It will definitely be another tourist attraction but also a recovery which we pass on to the younger generation ".

The Source of Venus is constituted by two stone tubs currently filled with water from a nearby natural spring still active. The time frame is largely barrel, where one can see two circular holes, from which a time is probably descended dried tied to ropes to draw water. According to an ancient pagan tradition, practiced until the mid-twentieth century, women wishing to conceive a child on their way to draw water that flowed from the source.
